Drop Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 2 cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 4 cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 cup Sour Milk or Buttermilk
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. In a large bowl, cream the shortening and sugar; add eggs one at a time and beat well
  3. In a small bowl, mix sour milk/buttermilk with baking soda
  4. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg
  5. Combine the dry mixture, as well as milk/baking soda mixture, into the creamed shortening/sugar mixture, alternating between wet and dry mixtures
  6. Add vanilla extract; stir until combined
  7. Drop, by the spoon-full, onto a greased cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes

Recipe's Story:

This recipe is from my great grandmother’s family cookbook. It has always been a favorite of mine and is something I look forward to for special occasions and holidays.
